I know what you're thinking; Guy, are you for real? Two journal posts barely two weeks apart? This is madness!
No, this is me trying to be productive for a change. And I know what you're thinking; Guy, are you for real? You've never actually finished anything! This is madness!
No, this is NaNoWriMo. Deal with it.
So, I just finished reading Dracula. Awesome story, though fairly linear, it gripped me pretty much from start to finish and was a thrilling read--though for my own sake somewhat disappointing. Now I know what you're thinking; what on earth does this have to do with NaNo? Quite simple, my friend; I had read in summary the plot of Dracula and found mentions of a scheme to take over the world, and I wanted to find the Count's purpose/scheme explained in more details so I could (ab)use it in my own work this coming November, but alas. I will just have to make something up after all. That said, I was glad to see Van Helsing's character and wisdom were almost other-worldly; this will help a great deal. *coughcoughspoilspoil*
I know what you're thinking; Guy, that doesn't explain anything at all! I know. I'm trying not to spoil. And truth be told, it's not the focus of the plot at all; in fact it may only be mentioned in passing for a phrase or two. So then why go through all the bother? I want to get things right this time. Doesn't this quite show my zeal? I hope it does; it's what I was aiming for. And I know what you're thinking; so then, Guy, what IS the plot? And this is where things get interesting.
Current working title: Keeper (subject to change at one of my frequent whims)
Synopsis: Shortly before Man's creation, after a war that split the heavens themselves, all that was evil was sealed in a mirrored dimension using six spiritual gates. Six houses were appointed to be Gatekeepers; they were meant to ensure the Gates would remain closed eternally. They failed...
One by one Gates started to be opened, though slowly at first, and each Gate unleashed more and more hatred and ill-will upon the Earth until the march of evil has become all but unstoppable. Few Gates remain, and should all be opened then Mankind will come to an end, perhaps even the Earth itself. The world will have to bear the full brunt of the Fallen, immortal beings afflicted by sin and warped by selfish desire...
These are the odds Yarara must fight, as surrogate Keeper of the Second Gate. Unwittingly, the simple university student has become part of Mankind's last line of defence. His struggle for survival, during which he meets unexpected foes and even more unexpected allies, together with what's left of the Six Houses, will inevitably determine the outcome of this ghastly tug of war. No pressure...
